London Russian Music Academy is currently in the process of setting up our new Youth Orchestra. We plan to take it to a very high level and intend for it to perform at prestigious concert venues. Our plans also include joint performances with our affiliated professional orchestra, London International Chamber Orchestra.
We are looking for players of Grade 7 + standard and equivalent, or of exceptional talent and potential. Orchestral rehearsals will take place on Saturday afternoons in Central London during term time.
The Youth Orchestra Project will be led by Pavel Timofeyevsky who has a vast array of experience, passion and dedication in working with youth orchestras. As a conductor, Pavel has appeared on stage and in the recording studio and has worked with opera, symphony, and chamber orchestras as well as with choirs.
Pavel is a versatile pianist, composer, conductor, winner of BBC/Guardian Young Composer of the Year Award, Pavel has appeared at nearly all the major concert venues across the UK and is quickly establishing himself on the international concert circuit.
Highlights from last season included making his US, China, Italy and Latvia debuts as pianist, collaborating with Boris Grebenschikov on one of the songs of his latest album and conducting Questors Symphony Orchestra for their 60th anniversary concert at Cadogan Hall. You will then be invited for an audition. This will comprise a performance of prepared pieces and sight-reading.
You will need to prepare two pieces, up to 15 minutes in total, preferably of contrasting style and character. Accompanist will be provided, however if you prefer, you can bring your own accompanist.
Sight reading will consist of two parts:
1) You will be given a piece which you will be able to study for 10 minutes. After that you will be asked to perform it.
2) You will be given a piece which you will need to perform after looking at it for one minute.
